Winter Wonderland 2009

We got hit with about two feet of snow this past weekend which is HUGE for NOVA. Still don’t own a snow shovel so Robert swept my car out Saturday morning and we trudged through unplowed streets to my parents house to borrow a shovel to do the rest of the work. We had great friends who put up with a self invited visit and served us yummy chili and cornbread. I worked on Sunday and quoting my colleague, the snow makes us nurses contemplate a career change to education. We then crashed other friends’ house that night who treated us with tim tam slams and hot chocolate. While we were out and about we got some fun shots of the winter wonderland…

Turns out galoshes are great for the rain and not so great for the snow….my feet were FREEZING!!!

The poor little bug had to wait another day or two to get shoveled out…

Maryland

We recently spent a fabulous fall weekend in western Maryland. Robert is holding the only apple we found in the orchard.

We enjoyed walking through downtown Fredrick, amidst the historic buildings, street fair, and canals.

We had a delicious lunch at Volt whose owner and chef is on this season’s Top Chef.

Next stop was dessert at South Mountain Creamery.

Robert and I spent a weekend in New York City seeing my sister, his cousin and his wife, and various friends. Pouring rain kept us from pulling out the camera too often but here’s a taste of our trip….

Congratulations to our friend Alma who was recently honored at work with a prestigious award! In return he honored us by asking us to take his head shots.

We had fun venturing into a new aspect of photography and came up with a few great shots.

Ketchup….

We loaded a few friends in the boat and headed up to National Harbor this evening for dinner at Ketchup (or Catsup, however you prefer to say it!) Funky decor, comfort food, great location, perfect weather, and fantastic company make this a highly recommended repeat adventure!

Ohhhh….not only did I insist on the restaurant, I insisted on the appetizer choice. The Threesome came with sugar coated sweet potato fries, parmesan sprinkled fries, and old bay seasoned fries and six varieties of Ketchup (or catsup!) Chipotle, maple syrup, raspberry, ranch, garlic and bbq ketchup pictured below.

Very content after a fabulously scrumptious burger that went so quick we didn’t have time to get a picture….

I promise this is totally candid….

Another Day on the Water…

As is my normal routine on Saturday I went out on the boat. Weather for the last two weekends has been great. We had a good crowd which included a 6 year old who was brave enough to attempt to wakeboard…. I am going to claim success but what you see in the picture is a “Up” as he ever got. Shoot me or Cari an email if your interested in going out with us sometime.

Boy Scout Adventure in the City…

It has been nearly a month since I went on High Adventure with the Boy Scouts. I just haven’t gotten around to posting on the blog. We all had a great time. We started out Mountain Biking in the lehigh valley in PA, then a white water rafting trip down the gorge the next day. On day three we ventured up to New York City and did an urban hike of around 12 miles from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park. We ended our trip on day four at WestPoint. Sorry for the lack of detail in the post, but the pictures is why this exists anyways…. enjoy.

Yesterday was a great day! Cari and I along with her dad spent a few hours on the boat in Pohick bay trying out our new wakeskate (like a wakeboard but with out bindings). Both myself and Cari successfully got up on the wakeskate and found it a fun alternative to wakeboarding.

After dropping Cari’s dad off at the dock and getting a quick impromptu safety inspection by the FCPD we headed off to Belle Haven Marina (just south of Old Town Alexandria) in a rain storm to pick up the Ramptons’ and the Chavezs’ for a quick night time DC tour and a picnic on the boat while watching the Alexandria birthday fireworks. The fireworks were awesome, we were so close to the barge shooting them off that we would see the flash from the launching tubes as the fireworks were shot off. We are definitely going to be watching next years 4th of july fireworks from the boat next year….. Sign up early if you want to get a seat.

We only took a few pictures while we were out, but here is a small selection….
